Again work has got in the way of production along with Cameron contracting diabetes, at trip to the States with work and Christmas in Michigan in the snow. Anyway, I bit the bullet and decided to tackle the electrics once and for all. First job was the "non start on the key problem". I traced all of the starter circuit leads for the starter motor solenoid, these seemed all OK so I plotted the starter switch logic, low and behold the primary and auxiliary circuits were the wrong way round. Bingo the car starts on the key. Next was the fuel pump being permanently on, again after tracing all of the wires I came across two fuel pump feeds joined to one. I disconnected both and found only one need be connected. I still have a problem with the wipers interfering with the lights and the Tacho does not work even though the feed from the ECU seems to be OK. I have contacted Fishers and Lightning Looms (now not trading) to see if these can be sorted. I also bought a proper inlet manifold gasket and have installed this. No difference, the engine still seems to be running on 3 cylinders, if that. So I sprayed WD40 around the inlet manifold and found one injector was not sealed properly. This was bunged up with Fire Gum (exhaust sealer) as a temporary measure, that did the job. Still cylinder No. 3 is running cool and so I will have to try the WD40 again to see if there are any leaks in this one. I will try and find the correct fuel rail for the inlet manifold in a couple of weeks time. Finally this month met up with Mark Bidileux and Stuart Parley, Mark has a xflow stylus and Stuart is building a Stylus and both live less than a mile form me. Starts wife works on the same ward as Lynda and I found out that Mark used to work at DERA Chertsey and that group now shares an office with me. Small World!!!
