Intatrim delivered right on time, the Odyssey seats fit very well with just about enough room around them to allow for a slide to be used underneath them. I also laid in the front and rear part of the loom I have a few questions but will save them up until the dash portion arrives. Don't think I mentioned that the new inlet system supplied wouldn't fit. I chatted to Mark, the man at Ginetta and finally the man who made it and found that I had an 1800 version. A 2000 version is being sorted at the moment and will be forwarded soon. So if all goes well I may have the engine turned over before Christmas and the body fixed down leaving trim to do.
Went to the local scrap yard to pick up a few bits and pieces, these included a set of Sierra relays and fuses, some Fiesta Mk2 inner door handles, an Escort Mk2 brake master cylinder (3 exits this time) and a couple of Fiesta bonnet catches (may be useful for the bonnet sides). I also finalised the exhaust fit, bolted the rear bracket to the cockpit side (this may need rubber element in it at a later stage, we'll see). I also fitted the new brake cylinder, luckily no cutting of the pipes was needed, only the removal of one of the T pieces and a bit of extra bending. The brakes were bled and this has given a more positive feel. These will need to be refilled and bled when run in.
Fitted the pod brackets and tightened the exhaust clamps up filling the joints with Firegum.
Top coated the pod brackets and left them to harden off. Colour match isn't too bad, it's inside anyway. Cut the heat shield and glued it to the inside of the passenger pod with high temperature impact adhesive from NF Auto. I also made a sleeve in heat blanket to fit over the Cat
Didn't do much this evening, just primed the pod top brackets and cut the exhaust exit hole in the passenger pod.
Started to primer the pod plates but ran out, need another trip to Halfords. I trimmed the boot sheets around the door edges and this has finished the inside of the main tub nicely. I have also fitted the exhaust, marked out the exhaust exit position on the side pod and cut this out. I had planned to have the end pipe assembled after the side pod fitting but this was near impossible so the hole was widened so that the pod fits over the assembled exhaust. All I need to do now is to prime and paint the pod brackets, put the heat shield inside the pod, wrap the exhaust and cat and start to bolt it together. By the way the rear end has never fitted so good, it was worth spending the time on the extra brackets etc.
I have painted the brackets so they will be put on when they have had a bit of time to dry. I got the various ally sheet parts trimmed and cut/bent the hole in one for the exhaust. I also fitted the boot side sheets in place with rivets and adhesive.
Spent an evening trial fitting all of the various ally panels that I have had cut at work. Most of them need a bit of fine tuning but generally they all fit reasonably well. The panels for the boot side do the job putting the rear of the car in about the right place. The pod front "brackets" also are within a few mm but need squaring off and the hole for the exhaust cutting. I have also trial fitted the roll bar and marked the cut out for the rear deck. Finally I remade one of the radiator brackets and primer coated them both. I have found a paint colour that matches so I put the top coat on tomorrow.
Fitted the steering wheel (the centre horn push that the guy threw in did not fit) and the breather filter. I also finished off cutting the silencer off and riveted it back together. I also sorted out the numerous water pipes and clips that I had lying around ready to start fitting the radiator etc. I also looked at fitting the door locks, I think I have found a way of using the Sierra door locks and the key turns on the outside thus getting away from having the mini type handles. Finally I measured up the ally sheet for the boot side extensions that need fitting, I will get these cut at work tomorrow (hopefully). So generally a good weekend, the only downer was that Ian from Lightening Looms could not make the show because his daughter was ill, but he has promised to send the loom bits down early this week.
