One small step for Ugg's Fury, one great whole in the credit card !!! Called a few scrappers today and finally found what I was looking for. Yep, I've purchased the engine and hopefully a few other bits as well. Having phoned several salvagers out of the Car Parts Mart mag I chatted to David at Cleave Motor Salvage of Gloucester. He informed me that they had a '98R 2.0l Ford Mondeo with, wait for it, 2000 miles on the clock, and the engine was still in the body. Apparently, the car was a ford demo car that was rolled heavily by someone not insured to drive it, it has taken three years to sort the insurance out and was cleared a couple of weeks ago. The engine seems to be the last of the standard Zetec types (ally rocker top) therefore giving 136bhp. It is currently being extracted and I have asked for everything ready to plug in and go - alternator, starter, loom, ECU, fuel injection, exhaust manifold, etc. I have also got them to change the clutch and flywheel for a 1.8 Zetec (probably from an Escort). I have also asked for the CAT to be put in with the price (fingers crossed). And I know you are dying to know the damage - £1000 + vat delivered to the door. Expensive, but not bad for the whole shooting match plus the extra bits and with such low mileage. I'll let you know the details when it arrives.
Quick call made to Mark Fisher to clarify a couple of points. Firstly to confirm that he had me down for a large fuel tank (9.5 Gal), secondly to check which parts he needed to refurb - rear drive shafts, steering column extension and front uprights. Also I confirmed that I needed a Mk2 Escort steering rack and a brake master cylinder with a 19mm bore (Sierra without the servo may do, if not a Mk2 Escort would be better). Timings for the parts to be back to Fisher were - exchange bits during May and the engine for a trial fitting in June (kit delivery July). Finally the recommended refurb of the parts was to wire brush then paint with Hammerite as expected.
The fun starts here. Having found out a friend at work had abandoned his project to build a Royale Sabre, the question was asked "what are you going to do with you Sierra bits?". Without hesitation I suggested that I knew a man who could make some room in his garage and very kindly I have become the owner of many Sierra parts. As you will have gathered I collected them tonight. The following parts were collected, all of them coming from a B reg Sierra 2.0l Ghia estate -
Gearbox (recently recon item), diff (3.38:1), drive shafts, propshaft, front and rear uprights, rear brake assemblies, front disks, front calipers, steering wheel, steering column, steering column extension, ignition switch and stalk switches, steering rack (non servo), brake master cylinder, hand brake, hand brake cable, clutch cable, speedo cable, clock, horn, washer bottle and pipe, header tank, radiator, number plate lamps and a Haynes manual. |
