Arrived at Fisher a little after 11am, weather was cold (just above freezing) and snow was in the air. Having had a look around at the demonstrator cars and the work shop we waited patiently for our turn to have a drive. The majority of the ten or so blokes waiting were interested in the Blade car, but I only had eyes for the Zetec powered Fury. Out on the day were a green Zetec 1800 (on twin 40's), a yellow Blade and the Targa Liege rainbow coloured car. Also hanging around was a striker and a blue CVH powered Mojo. In the shop was a K Series powered Fury (cream and maroon), two part built blade cars (yellow and black), two blade chassis and a part built striker chassis.
Anyway, down to business, at about 12.20pm Mark Fisher took me for a blast around the lanes of Kent in the Green Zetec. Initial impressions were of a car with a supple, compliant ride, decent speed and an excess of grip. The noise was superb along with sufficient breeze to ruffle the hair but not so much as to pull it out of the folicles, with a pair of side screens fitted I would expect to sit in still air at legal road speeds. On our return Lynda was shown what the car could do, and I think that I am in the clear. Next, the moment of truth, my turn to press the peddles and turn the wheel. The engine was responsive, the clutch positive without being heavy and the brake, well the least said the better (Mark admitted they needed sorting out). The acceleration was good and smooth but the most impressive attribute was the cornering grip. You could approach a corner at speed, keep the right foot planted and the car just stuck to the road without any hopping, skipping or sliding.
Silly Grin Time !!!!!! All that is left to do is to add up the cost, make a few enquiries about tired Sierra's and Zetec engines and look through the catalogues and build up a wish list. I think the decision has been made - A Fury (IRS) with Zetec engine, Dark Blue Gel Coat, Le Mans bonnet and a soft top (to start with).
