Received the new flywheel and throttle pot (on throttle body) - flywheel doesn't seem much lighter than the 2.0l models (about 1kg on the bathroom scales) but have changed it anyway. I went down to Adversane vehicle breakers (about 5 miles away) and spent a couple of hours salvaging the heater and wiper motor from an E reg mini. Both look in good condition with no sign of leaks on the heater the cost was £25+vat. I am still in the process of sourcing the following - 1.8l Zetec clutch and pressure plate, Cliffords in Brighton can supply an Escort Zetec water pump for £33+vat and an Escort Mk2 steering rack for £22+vat (Sierra rack in exchange), I will also need a fuel pump (probably off an injection Sierra), that leaves wheels, tyres and seats. On the engine front the flywheel has been changed, the breather pipe from the exhaust to the inlet has been removed, the exhaust manifold has been taken off, the throttle pot replaced and the front end uncovered ready for the water pump change
Checked the motor over this weekend to ensure the spec was as advertised. I can confirm that is is a 2.0l Zetec from a Mondeo and is of the Zetec-e type (not Duratec as installed in the Focus). This should pump out 136hp using the standard injection system (this may be a bit more with a new regulator, fuel pump, induction filter, free flow exhaust and plenum chamber mods). Following a good check over I found that the throttle pot had been removed and the Escort 1.8l clutch and flywheel had not been shipped. A call to Cleave confirmed that these would be shipped on Monday. So, over the week end I removed the power steering pump, the CAT from the exhaust manifold retaining the Lambda Sensor, loosened the exhaust manifold, removed the clutch ready for exchange.
Just happened to have a meeting in Rochester so popped into Fisher to drop off the parts for modification - steering column extension, front uprights and the rear drive shafts. I was going to drop of the cat but didn't have time to remove it. This will be incorporated into the Fisher supplied exhaust system. Saw a nice road spec fury with a Kwaka ZX9 engine ready for SVA.
The engine has arrived. Just took a quick peak and found that is was from a burgundy 1997 2.0l LX Mondeo. Seems to be a Zetec-E which may cause a few problems in fitting (water pump seems to be the biggest) but I will inspect it in conjunction with the Haynes manual over the week end. Just to confirm, it has arrived with all ancillaries, exhaust manifold, cat and ECU, it has also had a 1.8l flywheel and clutch from an escort added.
