Went out and got a smaller Zetec alternator and also a Mk5 Escort screw in air temperature sender. These were fitted. The alternator fitting holes needed filing out a bit but this seemed to do the job. So the inlet side of the engine was finished off by connecting up the alternator electrics and the rest of the fuel and vacuum lines. I also got a 1000mm long, 6 groove fan belt and fitted this, works fine with just about the right tension. Finally, managed to fit the Sierra accelerator cable with a bit of fiddling. Also the last bit of the loom etc. will be here on Christmas eve.
Made a call to Dave Sewel to let him know about the injector rail fit, he was aware of the difference and said that he was working on a new fitment for this type. He also said that there were three of four types of rail to fit, I had the latest "focus" type, there is a single rail 1800 and a later model single rail 2000 (mine). Also the M18 boss takes a temperature sender from an earlier engine (a trip to HCS is probably in order). He also said that if the mass flow meter can fit the end of the throttle body then that is the way to do it. Otherwise a short hose would be fine. Also called Mark at Fishers for a number of issues, he suggests a 1600 or 1800 Zetec alternator, failing that a Lucas Type Pinto alternator would work. Finally I shall email Ian at Lightening looms to get a hurry up on the rest of the loom.
A quiet night, took the bonnet off and fitted it to the rest of the aligned body work. I think I will trim down the return edge a little so that it seats better near the wind screen.
The two 13mm thick ally connectors for the injector bar were made up and fitted. I also bolted the ally connector and the throttle body to the inlet system and placed the whole lot on the side of the engine. The end of the inlet fouls the alternator so that has to come off and a smaller one fitted. I also connected up the vacuum pipes between the block breather, brake master and the inlet and the fuel regulator and the inlet. Finally I need to find out what temperature sender to fit to the inlet M18 boss. I also G clamped the body work in place ready for final fitting.
The 2000 version of the inlet arrived today. Spent the evening sorting out all of the connections and found that the injector bar retailing lugs did not fit. So, I made up a few sketched from measurements and will try and make up some brackets. I also drilled out the fixing holes in the throttle body to 8.0mm to match the inlet holes.
