Over the past couple of weeks I've finished off cleaning and adding a coat of Hammerite to the remaining brake parts. Went out today and bought a fuel pump (out of tank, 2.0l pinto injection Bosch) from HCS. Also visited a place in Hove called Namarick (advertises in Kit mags) who seam to be able to supply and nut/bolt/washer imaginable, here I bought a mixed bag of metric fixings. This is supposed to contain 550 parts and only cost £12.50. Finally called into Cliffords to pick up some of the service items like oil, fuel filters, and brake shoes. The shoes were fitted to the other brake parts and the calipers re-assembles ready for fitting.
Visited a chap that I found on the internet who was flogging a set of alloys with tyres for £100, seemed like a bargain. These turned out to be a nice set of five spokes with Yoko A200(?) tyres that had come off a Jap import (this is what Asuka does). I took along a brake disk to check the fixings, these wheels had been drilled twice, once for 100mm and once for 114mm PCD (you guessed it, no good), the annoying thing was that the reverse side had countersinks for std. Ford fit. Bummer.
Popped into Fishers to drop of the Cat so that it can be incorporated into the back box. Whilst there I trial fitted the servo brake cylinder to see if it would fit. With a bit of judicial hole widening and a touch of ingenuity on the link it should fit. This will give a bit more bit to the brakes.
Went up to the Newark Kit Car Show, bit disappointing to tell the truth, probably due to a clash with Le Mans. Anyway, picked up a cut out switch and a fuse box and chatted to a bloke who has a Striker and is building a Fury with a Mazda Xedos 6 2.0l V6, interesting. Also called Cleave motor salvage and am having an Escort 1.8 clutch plate and housing and the sump and pickup pipe, possibly also the water pump pulley, these should arrive this week. I have stripped off the water pipes from the engine and removed the sump ready to install the Escort item. Finally for now, I've cleaned the diff and the starter.
Went over to Cliffords in Brighton and picked up a recon Mk2 Escort steering rack (exchange for Sierra) at a very reasonable cost (£35 including new track rod ends and vat). I also got an Escort/Fiesta water pump, new, for £35. This has already been installed, hope I haven't done anything stupid. To remove and replace the cam belt I marked the two cam pulleys, the crank pulley and the belt with spots of paint and noted the position of the tensioner wheel. The crank was rigidly fixed (at flywheel end) the belt removed, the water pump changed and the belt replaced in the same position as before with the spots lining up. This seemed a quicker and easier way than completely redoing the the timing from scratch. I guess we will only know if it is OK when we eventually start her up.
